Tax Freedom

Pro Skateboarder Billy Marks Makes Ping Pong As Easy As TurboTax

One of my least favorite times of the year is when my husband says, "I need you to do the taxes this week."  I don't know why it immediately changes my mood and makes me feel like "uuuugggghhhh!"  A few years ago though I stumbled upon the tax freedom project by Turbotax.  I knew from all the commercials that TurboTax was revolutionizing the process of filing your taxes but I also knew that I could not afford to pay for TurboTax online e-filing.

Tax Freedom for Military and Low-Income

So what is the Tax Freedom Project?  It is the non-profit service offered by TurboTax for those in the military or who are low income:  the low income guidelines this year are anything below $31,000.  I love companies like TurboTax that give back to the community, not only through charitable donations once a year but by offering their services free for those who need it but cannot afford it.

Other Free Tax Software

H&R Block, Free Tax USA, Tax Act, eztaxreturn.com, icanefile.org, completetax.com, and etax.com all have websites where they claim that you can e-file tax freedom style.  I only have experience with the TurboTax Tax Freedom Project and I have been a very satisfied customer for over 5 years now.  Just be careful when you are selecting your tax freedom software that you check out and make sure that they truly are free for the whole process and that they can also file your state taxes free for you.  Another thing to keep in mind is, if you use Quicken or some other bookkeeping software, does your tax freedom software allow you to transfer that information right into your tax return?  I know for sure that TurboTax tax freedom software is designed to transfer all Quicken or Quickbooks data straight into your tax return, saving you lots of time if you have kept good books and tagged all of your income an expenses correctly in your bookkeeping software.

Why E-file At All?

If you are asking this question, you are probably one of those who have a hard time with change, but I assure you this change is more than worth it!  For starters, if you e-file with a tax freedom software such as Turbo Tax Tax Freedom Project, you can get your refund in just eight days instead of the 6 weeks it would take for snail mailing your return (that is if you direct deposit your refund into your checking or savings account).  Also, TurboTax Tax Freedom Project, as all TurboTax products, has a very simple step by step process for filling out all of your tax forms one screen at a time with all the possible questions and answers you may ask right there for your viewing.  There's also the live chat feature where you can contact someone to help you with any unique questions you have as well, try getting that with your snail mail free return.  I have tried the IRS 800 telephone assistance and while you do get your answers, you will have to wait hours or even a day or more to get someone to talk to you, depending on how late you are filing.  I have been doing my/our taxes for almost 30 years now and the tax freedom e-filing is the ONLY way I will do my taxes now, unless they come up with an even better way.  TurboTax, if you are reading this, may I suggest an AutoFile software connected with Quicken where your taxes are automatically filed, per user agreement, right from your Quicken files.  Just a thought.
